FRANK'S VIEW
2003 PGA SHOW

DRIVERS: Most notable driver at the Show was the Great
Big Bertha II from Callaway because they claim this club is the ultimate,
using all the best technology of their entire line.

IRONS: Nike’s Pro Combo irons really stood out
for me as one of the better concepts coming through in iron design.
For the mid range golfer, they have the best of all worlds with forgiving
long irons and classic wedges.

BALLS: Titleist’s Pro V1 X, the new prototype ball played
by Ernie Els was what everyone was talking about. A ball specifically
designed for the elite golfer, approaching the optimum in performance.

GRAPEVINE CHAT: Even with Titleist choosing not to
exhibit at the Show, the grapevine chat went something like this...Ernie,
Titleist, Ernie, Titleist, Ernie, Titleist Ernie, Titleist...you get
the idea by now.

BEST BOOTH: Undoubtably the best booth was the Taylor Made
Adidas booth, with its combination of technology and meeting the game.
A Scottish pot bunker was a feature here, as were the wild grasses and
built up railway sleepers which served to showcase the technology of
their products.
NOTICEABLE NEW THEMES: The move to the center shafted
putter by many of the putter manufacturers.
OVERALL SHOW OBSERVATIONS: Science is replacing art
more so than ever before in terms of club and ball design.
